Soo Line passenger engine 553 waits at Winnipeg for the return trip to Minneapolis/ St Paul! The Soo Line was really the Canadian Pacific in the USA, just as the Great Northern and the Northern Pacific jointly owned the Burlington which gave them a route to Chicago! On the Great Northern the overnight train between St Paul/ Minneapolis and Winnipeg was called "the Winnipeg Limited" and on the Soo Line it was called "the Winnipeger". On the "GN" the distance was 457 miles. |

Soon the farmers will be planting corn and soybeans, leaving me with "nothing to do" but sit around and watch it grow! Life here in the river valley is nice and as a retired BN dispatcher, I can say that this is the best job that I have ever had! |

Today it is all gone except for a pair of crossovers. If you had not seen that which it was, you would never know from looking at it today! |

in downtown St Paul at the GN freight house, you can see the 1st Bank sign in the background that has probably been there since the early 1930's! The caboose is long gone as also so is the freight house. The investment bankers were there "in the time of the beginning" and they are still there! Everything else is now gone and only a memory to those who were there to see these things! |

the workers did the work and everybody left everybody--- including me alone! People had respect for others and it was clear to everyone, who the officials were and where they were! It was not like the "weed weasels and snakes in the grass" that there are today, who sit off in the background listening to the radio, perhaps with their feet on the desk! The guy on the right by the water tender with the long coat and hat looks like someone that I could respect for that which he was! Someone who really cared about how things were going and could actually do something to help the men when they needed help! |
