Viewing Album:  Rail Grinder at Bangor West

Album Info:It was 553pm and starting to get dark. Just maybe that helped! No matter what you do NOT get to see this everyday! I've seen the Rail Grinder a couple of times before this, but was never able to get any pictures of it working--- until now! Have you ever heard "the song that the rail sings" after it is freshly ground?! When there is a train that does NOT have a lot of noise to it like coal empties, "the song of the rail" is something special to hear!

Description:  "Eng LMX 3404 Works Extra" west on "the old eastward" track! Most people do NOT think that way any more because it has been many years now, since this was double track. You can see the rail joints on the siding which was once the westward track. This track has lots of fast moving trains and it is very well maintained. Perhaps because it is also the route for Amtrak's "Empire Builder". But still change does NOT come easy for those of us, who saw and remember "the Glory of that which once was"!

Description:  this picture could be called "Heading West at Bangor West (Milw mp 266)" or it could also be called "Heading for La Crosse and the valley of the Great River"! I was later told that they tied up for the night at West Salem. After making La Crosse the next day, if they continued on traveling up the river to St Paul Yard, or if they turned and headed south into Iowa--- this I do NOT know!
