a day in the Great River Valley
Perhaps "men and equipment" are done working for the day. The derail is set against the track machines, preventing them from entering or fouling the main track. This along with the main line switch being normal and no broken rail, allows the eastward ABS signal to be display a favorable indication even if, we are not in a position to see it. There is a clear block west as an eastbound out of La Crosse approaches us, having left Minneapolis/ St Paul and the "Great Northern Pacific" earlier in the day! The changing colors of the leaves on the trees along with a few bare ones, adds a nice effect!
