classic NP and maybe not seen as much as were the GP7/9s. Or at least not by me! I guess it just depended upon the part of the railroad that you were seeing at the time! In other words, different engines ran in different places, and not just anywhere at any time! Different things were in different places and so there was "a taste and a flavor" to things, and that was part of the fun of it! |

I was in the US Navy and not at home, when the world changed from that which it once was! And later when I was able to hire out on the BN in the summer of 1978 (which was 10 years after I hired out on the Milwaukee), even all of this was then gone! As were many other things also. I was glad that I was not there to see it change! |

a cold day on Lake Superior after the merger. Was the BN a great railroad?! While I thought so after they hired me as a dispatcher! And so I stayed for 30 years! But some would say that with the merger the glory of the former things began to fade, a lot of things changed very quickly! |
