Album Info:These pictures will NOT be about the engine Milwaukee 261. Instead they will be about the passenger cars that traveled thru the Upper Mississippi River Valley as they were painted and appeared until 1955. Why did the Milwaukee change its passenger colors to the Union Pacific yellow and gray?! It was because the Union Pacific was NOT happy with the C&NW's handling of their trains between Chicago and Omaha! Some would say the CB&Q was taking away the passenger traffic between Chicago, Omaha and Denver. What that had to do with the passenger trains between Chicago, Milwaukee and the Twins Cities of Minneapolis/ St Paul, I'm not sure. Some would say that the UP required it and some say that the UP colors were easier and cheaper to paint! Perhaps, but I would say--- they do NOT look near as nice! As a point of information, 1955 was also the year that the Northern Pacific passenger colors changed. Maybe that was because they were not only competing with the Great Northern, but also with the Milwaukee for passenger traffic to and from the west coast! The house where I now live at Milw mp 263 was not built until 40 years after 1955, but it is fun to sit here and sometimes be able to see small pictures of "the Glory--- which once was!"
